On 27th September 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm the volunteers from Biggleswade Community Safety Group along with our partners from the Police and Fire Brigade held an event at Sainsbury’s Biggleswade in which we gave out over 300 leaflets on advice in preventing car crime and secured  vehicle number plates as part of the CAPS initiative.
The CAPS initiative had 6 Neighbourhood Watch residents attend from the promotion on the Ringmaster system and Safer Beds website.  In total 12 vehicles had their number plates secured.

During the day several vehicle watches were performed by the team which involved walking around the car park looking into cars to see what valuables were left of display.

25 cars were recorded with valuables on display, and tannoy messages were put out in the store asking for the vehicle owners to come to customer services.  Only 20 owners reported to Customer Services where they were informed by PC Ian Wilson with a  member of the team that they had left property on display.  The remaining 5 vehicles will have letters written to them by the SNT Team.

The types of things left on display were similar to the event held on 23rd August.

One vehicle really surprised us when a member of the Fire Brigade returned with KEYS from a Honda Civic which the owner had left in the driver’s door!!!  A tannoy was put out but unfortunately the owner did not come forward even by end of the event.
