A thief doesn’t like to carry around a bundle of tools, not only will it make their arms ache, it makes them look conspicuous. An offender will find it much easier to locate tools at the scene, and then use them to break into the property or a neighbour’s property.

The offenders will use garden tools, garden ornaments, DIY tools, bricks and paving slabs if available.

A few things you can do

  • Remove lose paving slabs, bricks and rubble from your garden, so they can’t be used by criminals.
  • Secure away garden tools such as ladders in a good quality shed and remember to lock it. Thieves will use garden tools to lever open windows and patio doors. View more on shed security.
  • Secure heavy garden ornaments by anchoring them firmly in place either with a chain, by concreting them or partial burial. Garden ornaments can be used to smash windows and gain access to property.
  • Secure you perimeter using hostile plants and make sure gates and fences are in good repair. View more on how to defend your perimeter.
