If you are witness to a criminal activity before providing a description of a suspect, as calmly as possible give your name, present location and a brief description of what you saw, if anyone was injured and if medical assistance is required. After this describe the suspect from their head to toe and any additional information:describing a criminal

  • Name (if known)
  • Ethnicity
  • Sex
  • Age (Approximate)
  • Height (Approximate)
  • Weight or build (Approximate or medium, slim build ect.)
  • Hair (colour and style)
  • Eyes (colour)
  • Glasses (frame - wire, round, colour, etc)
  • Beard or moustache
  • Unusual features
  • Visible marks or scars
  • Accent (local, northern etc.)

  • Clothing (visible garments - hat, coat, shirt, trousers, shoes, logos, etc.)
  • Weapon/props (knife, crowbar, screwdriver, etc.)
  • Direction/manner of escape (foot or vehicle)
  • Vehicle description (make, model, colour, registration number)
  • What was taken? (wallet, purse, computer)
